Chobits>>Story
In the 22nd century everyone has a Persocon (a human-shaped robot that looks and feels like a real person). Hideki, our main character, would like one as well. However, he is a country boy and does not understand much about this sort of technology. Besides, he is doing horribly at pre-college and has almost no money, so he can't afford to waste time nor his limited earnings in such a thing.
Surprisingly, one night, he comes accross an abbandonned persocon in the street. He activates her (of course it is a female persocon) and it turns out that she has no memory at all and all that she says is "Chii"... so Hideki names her that way. In his attempt to make his persocon work correctly he asks his neighbour and classmate Shinbo to take a look. Shinbo connects his own mini-persocon, Sumomo, to Chii, in order to start with the revision. However, Chii seems to be too powerful for Sumomo and almost breaks her down. This is when Shinbo decides to take Chii to a legend of the persocon world, Minoru. This is a very young boy (he's 15 at the most) who's built hundreds of persocons and he might be able to help...
As the episodes go by, we learn more and more about Chii's mysterious past, she starts learning stuff (which is a very funny process) and developping a personality... and Hideki starts having feelings for her... but is that a good thing? Isn't she just a machine?
Also, throughout the series we meet lots of lovely characters (that'sjust like CLAMP) which seem disconnected from each other, but in the end we discover that they all have a "past" that connects them to one another. Also, we learn of the legend of Chobits: a series of persocons that have free will and have feelings of their own...
