Haruko is Misuzu's aunt and foster mother. She loves Misuzu very much, as if she was her own daughter, but she knows that one day, when Misuzu's mysterious illness (which is caused by her curse) gets worse, her true father will take her away. Because of this, she tries not to show her feelings and keeps a distance. However, she cares deeply for Misuzu and works very hard for her... her deepest fear is to loose Misuzu.

Kanna's purpose was to find her mother, who had been imprisonned in a cave, and free her. This is why, when Haruko starts to let her feeling show, Misuzu finds a loving mother, whixh was Kanna's ultimate ambition. This causes Misuzu to find true happiness and, therefore, to find death. In the end, it is Haruko's love that frees Misuzu from her lonely and loveless life.
